Meat Institute Awarded for Communications Efforts

The Meat Institute received two Hermes Creative Awards from the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals.

The Institute won a platinum award for its "Jacksonville Jaguars Bologna Blowout" campaign, which generated significant national media coverage. As part of the effort, the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council teamed with the Beef Checkoff to deliver 100 logs of bologna to the Jacksonville Jaguars after head coach Doug Marrone detailed his love of bologna sandwiches. ESPN ran multiple stories about the delivery on its TV, radio and online platforms. The delivery received added attention when the Jaguars decided to donate the bologna to the Feeding Northeast Florida food bank. Outlets that ran stories include the Associated Press , Fox Sports and USA Today , among many others. The promotion also led the team to sell "Marroney Bologna" sandwiches at their home games for the rest of last season, sparking a third round of media attention.

The Institute also won a gold award for its MyMeatUp app, making it the only association recognized in the app category. MyMeatUp is the only free app available with a full guide to beef, pork, lamb and veal cuts found in grocery stores, and also includes cooking tips and recipes. The app also includes a new "Where does my meat come from?" feature, which allows users to search USDA establishment data for information about where the product was produced. The Meat Institute developed it as the cornerstone of its goal of helping millennials become informed, confident consumers of meat and poultry. The app is available on both Apple and Android devices.
