The Meat Institute and North American Export Grain Association sent a letter to Alan Cobb, national engagement director for President-Elect Donald Trump, requesting the transition team's participation in a trade-focused listening session to discuss several high-priority, near-term trade-related decisions that the Trump Administration is expected to consider in the next few months. The proposed Food and Agriculture Trade Dialogue would convene experts to provide insights about, and address actions that could affect, North American and Asia-Pacific trade. In the letter, the associations argue that trade is essential to ensuring the agriculture industry remains strong, vibrant and competitive, and cited the benefits of trade for agriculture-related manufacturing jobs and the overall U.S. economy. In addition, the associations state that the agriculture industry relies heavily upon export markets to sustain prices and revenues, given that productivity is growing faster than domestic demand.
