AMI Convention to Feature Media and Lobbying 'Boot Camp '

Named for the American Meat Institute's (AMI) grassroots media and legislative initiative, AMI's "MeatUp Boot Camp" Super Session will teach effective media and communication methods during the 2004 AMI Annual Convention and Innovation Showcase held from Sept. 30-Oct. 2, at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tenn.

"MeatUp Boot Camp: Grassroots and Media Communication Training", is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 2 from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. Featured speakers include grass roots guru Mike Malik, president, Triad Communications and media expert Craig Veith, vice president, Direct Impact Communications. AMI Vice President of Public Affairs David Ray and Vice President of Legislative Affairs Jesse Sevcik also will instruct. Attendees will learn communication tactics for crisis communication from case studies, how to improve existing response plans, implementation of team crisis management and grass roots campaign strategy.

This session is described as a crash course in media and legislative communication. Part of the Consumers: Changes and Challenges track, it is one of two 'super sessions' offering intensive training. Don't miss an opportunity to learn about consumers' attitudes and behavior and how to communicate effectively with them.

The consumer track also includes:
• "Health vs. Hype" scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 30 from 8:00 - 11:30 a.m.;
• "Understanding Consumer Confidence and Behavior", Friday, Oct. 1, 8:30 - 10 a.m.;
• "Food borne Illness and Bacterial Reduction", Friday, Oct. 1, 3-5:30 p.m.

Other convention highlights: a special, pre-convention conference, Sanitary Facility Design; an Innovation Showcase featuring more than 126 exhibits of the latest technologies; and two general sessions, featuring keynote speakers, Harry Balzer, vice president, The NPD Group and Dennis Avery, director, Center for Global Food Issues.
