Meat Institute Submits Comments Regarding 2020 DGAC Nomination Process

The Meat Institute submitted comments regarding the recently issued request for nominations for the 2020 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC). In its comments, the Meat Institute calls for a balanced DGAC representing a cross-section of disciplines and professions. Specifically, the Meat Institute contends the DGAC should be comprised of experts in the fields of food science and food technology, basic nutrition research, applied nutrition research, public health/health sciences and study design, among others. Although the Meat Institute did not officially nominate candidates in its submission, the Institute expressed support for J. Thomas Brenna, Ph.D., Department of Pediatrics, Nutrition and Chemistry, University of Texas at Austin; Eric Decker, Ph.D., Department of Food Science, University of Massachusetts, Amherst; Heather Leidy, Ph.D., Department of Nutrition Science, Purdue University; and Richard Mattes, Ph.D., R.D., Department of Nutrition Science, Purdue University.
