Meat Institute Seeks Member Feedback Regarding U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Beef Sustainability Assessment Guides

The Meat Institute is soliciting member feedback regarding the U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Beef’s Sustainability Assessment Guide (SAG) Report that provides each supply-chain sector within the U.S. beef value chain with guidelines to improve six high priority indicators developed by the organization. The six areas addressed in the guidelines include animal health and well-being, efficiency and yield, water resources, land resources, air and greenhouse gas emissions and employee safety and well-being.

The Meat Institute’s comments state the SAG documents capture many of the key components needed to assess sustainability of each sector and will foster continuous improvement in the implementation of the metrics outlined by the Roundtable. The comments also cite specific ways to improve the organization and consistency of the documents.
