A nationwide economic impact study found that more than one-fifth (or 20.4 percent) of the nation's economy is linked, either directly or indirectly, to the food and agriculture sectors and that more than one-fourth of all American jobs (28 percent) are similarly connected. Altogether, the food and agriculture industry's economic impact added up to $6.7 trillion including more than 43 million jobs, $1.9 trillion in wages, nearly $900 billion in taxes and $146.32 billion in exports. The research was commissioned by 22 food and food and agriculture organizations including the Meat Institute. The full data is available at www.FeedingTheEconomy.com .
