Deadline Approaching to Apply to Worker Safety Awards

Friday, September 22, 2017

(North American Meat Institute)

The deadline to apply to the Meat Institute's Worker Safety Awards Program is September 29. The awards recognize meat and poultry plants that have achieved high levels of workplace safety performance as part of the industry's continuing effort to reduce occupational injury and illness rates. Eligible plants will be evaluated on their actual safety performance and their implementation of key components of an effective safety and health program as measured by the safety program questionnaire. Applications will be accepted from plants with North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes 311611, 311612 and 311615. The application fee is $310 for NAMI members and $410 for non-members.

In addition, the Meat Institute changed the program from a traditional calendar year reporting schedule to a September through August reporting period. Applications submitted should cover the 12-month period September 1, 2016, through August 31, 2017. This change will allow the Institute to present the awards each January at the Worker Safety Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. The Meat Institute held a webinar September 12 detailing these changes.
