IPPE Draws More Than 31,000 People to AtlantaTuesday, February 7, 2017

The meat and poultry industry last week gathered in Atlanta, Georgia for the fifth International Production and Processing Expo (IPPE), which attracted nearly 1,300 exhibitors and more than 31,000 industry professionals from more than 100 countries.
In addition to a range of education sessions touching on key industry issues, the Meat Institute honored several industry leaders including Greg Benedict, former chief operating officer and president at American Foods Group, with the E. Floyd Forbes Award in recognition of his record of accomplishments and strong commitment to the meat industry; and John Link, founder and chairman of the board of Jack Link's Protein Snacks, with the Edward C. Jones Community Service Award. Jeff Sindelar, Ph.D., associate professor and extension meat specialist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, received the Harry L. Rudnick Educator's Award; Keith Belk, Ph.D., professor of animal sciences at Colorado State University, received the Foundation for Meat and Poultry Research and Education Scientific Achievement Award; and Provisur Technologies was presented with the Supplier of the Year Award.
NAMI also presented 126 companies with the Environmental Recognition Awards, which are given to companies that demonstrate a dedication to continuous environmental improvement, as evidenced by the development and implementation of Environmental Management Systems. In addition, the Institute honored 11 winners of the Environmental Achievement Awards, which recognize member companies that go beyond environmental compliance by designing and implementing innovative plan upgrades or environmental programs.
Furthermore, the Institute hosted the 2016 Meat Industry Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Dinner at IPPE. This year's inductees included Dr. Joe Cordray, professor and extension meat specialist, Iowa State University; Chuck Hendryx, vice president, meat, H-E-B Grocery Company; Sam Kane (deceased), founder, Sam Kane Beef Processors; C. Larry Pope, president and chief executive officer, Smithfield Foods; Dr. Joe Sebranek, professor, Iowa State University; Sam Stein (deceased), founder and chairman, Chef's Pantry and Sam Stein Associates; and Clayton Yeutter, former U.S. secretary of agriculture.share on facebook share on twitter
