Committee Center

The North American Meat Institute is governed by a Board of Directors and an Executive Committee that receive recommendations and technical guidance from committees. These committees convene regularly to share information and strategies around key areas. Involvement is open to all members.

Animal Welfare Advisory Committee

Monitors and analyzes animal handling and animal welfare policy initiatives and develops animal handling industry guidelines and training initiatives.


Communications and Marketing Committee

Serves as a member-driven resource to guide the development of NAMI communications strategy including media and public outreach. Leads consumer education, public affairs and marketing initiatives conducted by the Meat Institute on behalf of the meat and poultry industry.


Educational Products Committee

Develops, promotes and protects NAMI’s intellectual properties, including The NAMI Meat Buyer’s Guide, training courses and the NAMI website.


Environmental Affairs Advisory Committee

Encourages and assists member companies in complying with environmental laws and regulations; promotes the adoption of environmental management systems and other stewardship initiatives to minimize the impact of the meat and poultry processing industry on the environment; addresses the industry's policy interests before the federal government to promote the development of sound environmental regulations.


Food Safety and Inspection Affairs Committee

Develops actions, recommends policy and provides support and resources on food safety and inspection issues.


Foodservice Committee

Monitors and responds to issues that impact independent, small- to mid-sized meat companies whose primary interest is the foodservice industry.

Health and Wellness Advisory Committee

The scientific forum comprised of the nutrition, scientific or technical experts who evaluate diet, health and wellness issues that affect NAMI members.


International Affairs Committee

Monitors issues related to the import and export of meat and poultry products.


Labor and Employment Committee

Outlines and develops educational resources to address the challenges of human resources professionals in the meat and poultry industry; addresses issues involving employment policy, wages, worker retention and immigration policy.


Member Services Committee

Evaluates membership qualifications and policies, types or classes of membership or any other matters pertaining to membership promotion, recruitment, development, maintenance and retention. Recommends ideas for activities, benefits and services that enhance membership investment and value in NAMI.


Scientific Affairs Advisory Committee

Evaluates scientific issues that have potential for impact on the meat and poultry industry; provides scientific recommendations that support NAMI’s regulatory, public affairs and lobbying efforts.


Worker Safety and Health Committee

Fosters continuous improvement in worker and workplace safety in the meat industry; addresses workplace occupational safety and health issues, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulatory matters; plans and conducts the annual Conference on Worker Safety and the NAMI-National Safety Council Safety Awards Program.
