Importing red meat from Australia to the United States involves multiple business processes, including product identification, shipping/receiving, customs declarations, certifications, and a lot more. The Meat Institute in collaboration with Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA), GS1 US, Meat Import Council of America (MICA), and Management for Technology has developed an overview for import houses and further manufacturers on the use of GS1-128 barcodes and electronic messaging to increase transparency and efficiency for imported red meat from Australia to the U.S.
