Step 5: Create a Crisis Resource Notebook

Once the plans and statements are written, the lists are compiled and key resources located, compile all the information into a Crisis Resource Notebook that will be distributed to each member of the Crisis Management Team. Choose an easily identifiable notebook -- perhaps red in color -- that will be easy to spot when a crisis unfolds.

All too often, crisis plans and notebooks are permitted to collect dust on a shelf. It is important to assign responsibility for keeping the notebook current. When there are personnel changes that affect the CMT, new names and numbers should be added immediately. When reporters at local papers or city officials change, those too should be updated and these updates should be distributed to each member of the CMT. When regulatory requirements change, those also should be added or updated.
