Expo Highlight: AMI Expo to Offer Comprehensive Education Sessions on Consumer Trends and Product DevelopmentMonday, March 12, 2012
Washington, D.C. – Understanding the consumer’s purchasing decision process and its implications for new product strategies will be a main focal point at the 2012 Meat, Poultry & Seafood Industry Convention and Exposition, being held on May 1-3, 2012, at the Dallas Convention Center in Dallas, Texas.
From May 1-2, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a number of track education sessions, included with registration, and designed to focus on the meat industry’s highest priorities, with sustainability, food safety, and consumer trend changes being among the most challenging.
On Tuesday, May 1, starting at 9:00 a.m., the first session on consumer trends and product development, Best New Products of 2012, will center on the latest trends in meat and poultry products, discuss what consumers are looking for when they walk down the grocery aisle and the products that are capturing consumer attention for 2012.
Starting at 10:00 a.m., Niche Markets for Meat and Poultry: Localvore Movement, will concentration on the current food movements taking hold in American communities, including trends such as humane certified or locally sourced meat and poultry, local farming practices, and the latest on sustainable farming and reducing one’s carbon footprint.
Continuing on Wednesday, May 2, consumer trends and product development sessions will begin with The Power of Meat, starting at 9:00 a.m., which will focus on the modern consumer’s purchasing decision as well as the ways consumer food and shopping needs have changed over the past few years. Participants in this session will have the opportunity to hear the results of the new Power of Meat research on consumer trends and the impact the economy continues to have on meat sales.
Starting at 10:00 a.m., Using the Consumer Decision Tree: New Product Development will focus on the complexities of the fresh meat case and the challenges to understanding the consumer’s purchase decision process and its implications for new product strategies. The Neilsen Perishables Group will share the results of a comprehensive fresh meat consumer decision tree study and uncover what’s driving the consumer at the meat case, what variables influence the purchase decision, and if, how and why consumers switch between proteins. This session provides insights on how to use this understanding to shape product development strategies that will attract and satisfy customers and grow sales.
The final session, Sodium Reduction Implications for New Products, scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m., will center on understanding what consumers are eating, and the factors that drive their behavior and how it affects the development of healthy food products. Guests in attendance will be able to learn how processors are reducing salt and adding value for the consumer through products focused on providing choices for a healthy diet.
