Thursday, March 15, 2012

Kansas City, MO — The American Meat Institute Foundation (AMIF) recognized 116 plants with Environmental Recognition awards during a reception at its annual Conference on Worker Safety, Human Resources and the Environment. The presentation was held during AMIF’s 2012 Conference on Worker Safety, Human Resources and the Environment, at the Westin Crown Center, Kansas City, Missouri, March 14-15, 2012.

The Environmental Recognition Award Program is a four-tier, voluntary environmental management system toolbox, coupled with an awards program that ranges from simple to complex. The program begins in Tier One with a basic package of environmental policy statements and environmental policy compliance criteria, advances through more comprehensive requirements in Tier Two, incorporates a complete EMS model developed in cooperation with the EPA as Tier Three, and culminates with an ISO 14001 EMS as Tier Four.

This year, seven plants were recognized for completing Tier One; 11 were recognized for Tier Two; 59 were recognized for Tier Three and 39 were recognized for Tier Four.

“I hope that all of you feel proud of your accomplishments because they are remarkable. They go beyond simple regulatory compliance. They reflect leadership and commitment to your jobs, your companies and to the success of your industry,” said AMI Chairman Larry Odom, president and CEO of Odom’s Tennessee Pride Sausage Inc., who presented the awards.
