Livestock Economist and Marketing Expert Steve Meyer to Deliver Opening Keynote Address at Meat and Poultry Research Conference

Washington, D.C. — Renowned livestock economist and meat marketing expert Steve Meyer, Ph.D., founder and president of Paragon Economics, will deliver the keynote address at the inaugural Meat and Poultry Research Conference (MPRC), to be held November 1-2, 2011, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Meyer will provide a comprehensive look at the state of the meat and poultry industry, address current economic trends and offer his economic forecast for the industry.

Meyer is a frequent guest speaker for many pork- and livestock-related companies and organizations. He is perhaps best known as the lead author of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange’s Daily Livestock Report and a contributor to National Hog Farmer magazine’s weekly e-letter, North American Preview.

Meyer’s professional career includes positions in sales, sales management, business development and academia. Prior to founding Paragon Economics, he served as director of economics for the National Pork Producers Council and National Pork Board from 1993 to 2002.

Meyer obtained both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in agriculture economics from Oklahoma State University and a doctorate degree in that field from Iowa State University in 1987.

MPRC will bring together trade associations and professional societies whose members fund and conduct meat and poultry research on behalf of the industry. Attendees will discuss research priorities, share research results and look at future needs in an effort to improve the industry’s overall research program. Scheduled education session topics include antibiotic resistance, product quality, food safety and human health and nutrition.

MPRC is co-sponsored by the American Meat Institute Foundation (AMIF), U.S. Poultry Foundation, the Beef Checkoff, the Pork Checkoff, the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Poultry Science Association (PSA) and American Meat Science Association (AMSA).

Registration for members is $300 before October 7 and $250 for three members or more. After October 7, member registration is $350 and $300 for three members or more. Students may register for a special rate of $75. Registration for government/academia is $250 and non-member registration is $675.
