Annual Conference on Worker Safety, Human Resources and the Environment to Feature New Sessions on Critical Topics

Washington, D.C. — New, expanded and updated sessions on today’s most pertinent industry issues will be featured at the American Meat Institute Foundation’s 2010 Conference on Worker Safety, Human Resources and the Environment April 29-30, 2010, at the Westin Crown Center, Kansas City, Missouri. 

In addition, a new pre-conference workshop on sanitation and maintenance will be held on April 28 to offer attendees more value at a single conference.

Participants in this special workshop, “Train the Trainer: Sanitation and Maintenance Safety in Food Processing,”  will have access to course PowerPoint presentations; receive lesson plans for each instructional module and a glossary of industry terms; utilize a reference guide meant to assist in immediately identifying hazardous conditions to be rectified in accordance with OSHA guidelines and regulations; and engage in case studies utilizing knowledge gained from the course to find solutions to real-world incidents.

On April 29, the regular conference schedule opens with a general session led by Michael Sansolo, author of The Big Picture: Essential Business Lessons from the Movies. Sansolo will focus on sustainability and how worker safety, human resources and environment all play an integral role in a company’s sustainability plans.

On April 30, Neil Wasser, chairman, Constangy, Brooks & Smith, LLP, will deliver the second general session lecture.  Wasser has assisted employers with their compliance obligations in the United States and in establishing and improving employee safety and health programs in Europe and Latin America. He will discuss the 2009 OSHA review and provide attendees with a 2010 update.

In addition to these general sessions, attendees will take advantage of a number of concurrent educational sessions tailored to the needs of those involved in worker safety, human resources and environmental issues.

Scheduled worker safety sessions include: How to Manage an OSHA Inspection; Legislative Updates for Safety Professionals; Safety Incentive Plans; Developing a Fall Protection Program; Ergonomics in Action; Cost Analysis and Budgeting; Catastrophic Injury Prevention; and Engaging Your Supervisors in the Safety Process.

Scheduled human resources sessions include: How to Manage an AAP/EEOC Audit; ADA and FLMA Update; The Economy’s Affect on Worker Compensation Plans; Immigration Compliance; Religious Accommodation; and Increasing Your Bottom Line.

Scheduled environmental sessions include: New Federal Legislation and Regulation for the Environment; Greenhouse Gases — Requirements and Reduction; GHG Monitoring and Reduction Technologies; Alternative Energy — Biogas and Wind; Quaternary Ammonium; Wastewater Reduction and Reuse; Ammonia Criteria; Chesapeake Bay/Mississippi River Basin Update; Kansas Antigradation Policy and Nutrient Limits; Phosphorus Application Rates Update; Sustainability: Outreach and Education for Small and Medium Plants; and Successfully Communicating Your Sustainability Plans.

The annual Worker Safety Awards will be presented in the final session on April 30.

Registration fees for those registering before April 6, 2010, are $475 for AMI members, $825 for non-members and $415 each when three or more members register together.  After April 6, 2010, registration rates increase to $525 for AMI members, $825 for non-members, $465 each when three or more members register together. A registration fee for the pre-conference workshop is $75.
