Paul Allen of Advance Food Company Inc. Honored With American Meat Institute Edward C. Jones Community Service AwardFriday, October 30, 2009
CHICAGO, Ill, October 30, 2009 – Paul Allen, co-chairman of Advance Food Company Inc. in Enid, Oklahoma, today was awarded the American Meat Institute’s (AMI) Edward C. Jones Community Service Award during AMI’s International Meat, Poultry & Seafood Convention & Exposition, part of Worldwide Food Expo, Oct. 28-31, at McCormick Place in Chicago, Ill.
Allen has a strong belief that the company has a responsibility to improve the community. In Enid alone, Advance employees have volunteered thousands of hours to community service projects and non-profit organizations. The company and its employees provide significant financial support to over 150 local charitable causes each year. In addition, food donation programs contribute to non-profit organizations help fill food pantries, subsidize fundraising efforts and decrease costs for their activities. More than 20 local organizations have benefited from this program.
One of Allen’s most significant contributions was funding the construction of a world-class baseball facility for the local high school. The ballpark bears the name David Allen Memorial Ballpark in honor of David Allen who tragically died in 1995. The ballpark has had a huge economic impact, contributing nearly $10 million to the community during the 2008/2009 baseball season alone.
Allen’s work in the community includes memberships on the Boards of the Salvation Army, YMCA, Habitat for Humanity and The Rotary Club.
As part of his work with Rotary, he spearheaded a drive that ultimately built 26 homes for Tsunami relief in Thailand.
“The list of organizations that have benefited from Paul’s community commitment is impressive and extensive. Suffice it to say, his generous heart has touched many people in the Enid, Oklahoma, area,” said AMI President and CEO J. Patrick Boyle.
The award is named in honor former AMI Board member, the late Edward C. Jones of Jones Dairy Farm, in Ft. Atkinson, Wisc., who was a model of community service.
AMI represents the interests of packers and processors of beef, pork, lamb, veal and turkey products and their suppliers throughout North America. Together, AMI’s members produce 95 percent of the beef, pork, lamb and veal products and 70 percent of the turkey products in the United States. The Institute provides legislative, regulatory, public relations, technical, scientific and educational services to the meat and poultry packing and processing industry.
