Cooper Farms Honored With American Meat Institute Edward C. Jones Community Service Award

Colorado Springs, Colo.– Cooper Farms of Oakwood, Ohio, has been awarded the American Meat Institute’s (AMI) Edward C. Jones Community Service Award. Cooper Farms is marking its 70th anniversary this year, having been started by Virgil and Virginia Cooper in 1938.

 For years, Cooper Farms has been an active part of its community. In 2002, the company established the Cooper Family Foundation, which supports non-profit organizations in the community.  Since 2002, $1 million has been donated to local fire departments, historical societies, Boy Scout troops, performing arts centers and other non-profit groups that are important to the small communities that support Cooper Farms’ business. 

 “At a time when meat companies sometimes find themselves as unwelcome neighbors, Cooper Farms is truly a valued member of its Oakwood, Ohio, community stemming from years of cooperation and involvement,” said AMI Chairman Dave Miniat, who presented the award.

AMI represents the interests of packers and processors of beef, pork, lamb, veal and turkey products and their suppliers throughout North America. Together, AMI’s members produce 95 percent of the beef, pork, lamb and veal products and 70 percent of the turkey products in the United States. The Institute provides legislative, regulatory, public relations, technical, scientific and educational services to the meat and poultry packing and processing industry.
