Former Foreign Agricultural Service Official John J. Reddington Joins AMI as Vice President of International Trade

Washington, DC—The American Meat Institute (AMI) announced today the appointment of John J. Reddington as vice president of international trade. Reddington is a 23-year veteran of the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) who has served in posts worldwide. He joins AMI Nov. 5, 2002.

In his last position at FAS, he served as the director of the Dairy, Livestock and Poultry Division. He also served as special assistant to the FAS deputy administrator, counselor for agricultural affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Brazil, assistant deputy administrator for analysis, deputy director of the Tobacco, Cotton and Seeds Division and as an agricultural attaché in New Zealand, Pakistan and the Netherlands. He began his career at FAS as an economist in the Oilseeds and Products Division.

Reddington currently is president of his export consulting firm, American International Agribusiness Alliance, in Arlington, VA.

“Reddington’s experience in foreign markets will prove invaluable to our member companies as the meat and poultry industry’s prospects for developing new markets have been bolstered by the recent passage of trade promotion authority.”

In his new position, Reddington will manage the International Trade Policy Committee and the Institute’s trade activities. He also will serve as AMI’s representative on the Meat Industry Trade Policy Council, a group made up of AMI, the American Farm Bureau Federation, American Sheep Industry Association, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, National Pork Producers Council and the U.S. Meat Export Federation.

Reddington earned a bachelor’s degree in resource economics from the University of Massachusetts and a master’s degree in agricultural economics from Purdue University. He also participated in the Department of State’s Senior Seminar from 1993 to 1994.

AMI represents the interests of packers and processors of beef, pork, lamb, veal and turkey products and their suppliers throughout North America. Together, AMI's members produce 95 percent of the beef, pork, lamb and veal products and 70 percent of the turkey products in the U.S. Headquartered in Washington, DC, the Institute provides legislative, regulatory, public relations, technical, scientific and educational services to the industry. Its affiliate, the AMI Foundation, is a separate 501(c)3 organization that conducts research, education and information projects for the industry.
