Agrimetrics Honored With American Meat Institute 1999 Industry Advancement Award

Agrimetrics Associates, Inc., of Midlothian, VA, and its President Thomas Martin were honored with the American Meat Institute’s (AMI) highest award, the Industry Advancement Award. The award was presented during 1999 Worldwide Food Expo, October 28-31, 1999, at Chicago’s McCormick Place.

AMI presents the award annually to an individual or company that has truly enhanced the progress and efficiency of the meat and poultry industry. Established in 1965, Agrimetrics Associates, Inc. provides comparative data and management information to food producers, processors and marketers. The company’s programs address the need for industry management to constantly evaluate its priorities in a highly competitive environment by providing reliable, competitive benchmark information.

“Our 1999 Industry Advancement Award goes to a company that has helped us understand ourselves in a ‘statistically significant’ way,” said AMI Chairman Ken Taylor, president of Taylor Packing Company, Inc. “They say you cannot improve, what you cannot measure. Thomas Martin of Agrimetrics has refused to quit when the correct measuring tool wasn’t available…he simply reengineered the tools.”

Using technology unique to Agrimetrics, Martin and his colleagues have helped numerous meat and poultry companies identify their position in the marketplace and improve their competitiveness.

“While many of us dread spreadsheets teaming with data, Agrimetrics treats such analysis like a hobby…a passion,” Taylor said. “The company brags that they use 150 to 200 statistics in marketing one pound of chicken meat. From budgeting and forecasting to protein conversion and swine production monitoring, Agrimetrics takes challenging scenarios, devises means of analysis and helps translate data into sharper competitive edges.
