American Meat Institute Congratulates Governor Johanns on Nomination As USDA Chief

Friday, December 3, 2004

Washington, DC, -- American Meat Institute President and CEO J. Patrick Boyle congratulated Nebraska Governor Mike Johanns on his nomination as the next U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.

"We look forward to working closely with Governor Johanns on the long list of important issues facing America's agricultural sector," said Boyle. Johanns replaces outgoing Secretary Anne Veneman, who has provided strong leadership at USDA during some of the most trying times in its recent agriculture history.

"We are confident that Governor Johanns will continue to provide the strong and persistent leadership for America's meat and poultry producers and processors that we've become accustomed to under Secretary Veneman," noted Boyle. "Governor Johanns has a keen understanding of many issues that are critical to the meat industry. He also has been a strong advocate for free and open trade and expanding U.S. agricultural exports. His roots and experience in agriculture will service him well in this important role leading the Agriculture Department."
