AMI Will Host 2002 Worker Safety, Health and Human Resources Conference March 24-27, 2002, in Nashville, TN

Washington, DC—The American Meat Institute Foundation (AMIF) will host the 2002 Conference on Worker Safety, Health and Human Resources March 24-27, 2002, at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville, TN.

The conference will open Sunday, March 24, 2002, with on-site registration from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. followed by a welcome reception.

In addition to the Annual Safety Awards Banquet, this year’s conference offers a special certificate course, “Risk Management in Uncertain Times,” which will cover emergency response, disaster recovery and plant security and crisis management. Along with formal recognition, participants will gain expertise and information about an industry challenge that is more important than ever before.

The new Assistant Secretary of Labor John Henshaw has been invited to be the keynote speaker for the conference. Henshaw’s appearance will allow participants to hear his views about the agency’s role in the industry.

New and returning speakers that already have been confirmed include Steve Danon and Jack Struyk, of Holmes Murphy Associates, to lead the Risk Management in Uncertain Times course; Mark Lies, of Seyfarth & Shaw, to discuss how to perform effective investigations; AMI’s Director of Worker Safety Dan McCausland and Neil Wasser, of Costangy, Brooks & Smith, to evaluate how companies are doing under OSHA’s new record-keeping rule; AMI’s Vice President of Public Affairs Janet Riley to demonstrate how to use AMI’s Crisis Management Handbook; Steve Arendt, of the PSM Institute, to discuss compliance with PSM standards; and Steve Polich, of Parker Services, to review how to effectively manage safety and human resources contractors.

A Human Resources Update will feature panelists from ConAgra, Greater Omaha Packing, Omaha Steaks, Premium Standard Farms and Smithfield who will discuss methods for competing effectively to become an employer of choice.

Monday and Tuesday courses and update sessions will run throughout both days giving attendees a chance to maximize their educational opportunities.

The conference has a long history of providing industry professionals responsible for worker safety and human resources a forum to learn about the latest developments in managing their employees and providing for their safety and health.
