New AMI-sponsored Web Site: Meatsafety.org

ARLINGTON, VA – The American Meat Institute (AMI) has launched a new Web site, www.meatsafety.org that offers consumers and the media comprehensive information about meat and poultry safety. The site also offers detailed information about safe cooking, handling and storage of meat and poultry products.

"Meatsafety.org provides essential food safety facts for consumers to ensure that appropriate steps are taken when handling and preparing meat and poultry," said AMI Foundation Vice President of Scientific Affairs Dr. Randall Huffman, Ph.D. "The Web site is designed to be a quick but thorough reference that will be constantly updated to provide timely information as needs arise."

Reviewed by staff at USDA’s Meat and Poultry Hotline, Meatsafety.org also includes links to nutrition guidelines, food safety publications and articles and a 'Hot Topics' section for the most up-to-date news on food safety. The Web site also features a 'Food Safety Quiz' where consumers can test their food safety IQ in five minutes.

Meatsafety.org will provide to be an invaluable resource to media, with a wide array of fact sheets, charts, links and articles on important topics.

"As our new site says, ‘safe food is good business.’ By ensuring consumers understand basic and important information concerning meat and poultry safety, AMI can help ensure that meat and poultry products remain safe from farm to table," Huffman said.
