OSHA Recordkeeping Session at Worldwide Food Expo a Must-Attend Educational Event for All Industries

Washington, DC-All industries will benefit from a special session covering the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) new recordkeeping procedures set to go into effect in January 2002. The session takes place Saturday, October 20, 2001, from 8 to 10:30 a.m., at McCormick Place in room N405A. It is part of the Worldwide Food Expo sponsored by the meat, dairy and food processing equipment industries.

For more than 25 years, OSHA has required the same recordkeeping procedures for both occupational illness and injuries. In January 2002, new recordkeeping requirements will be imposed in which the definitions of occupational illness and injury will change. Employers must clearly understand these new definitions in order to comply with the new OSHA rule.

As part of the Worldwide Food Expo ’01, Neil Wasser, of Costangy, Brooks and Smith, along with the American Meat Institute’s (AMI) Director of Worker Safety Dan McCausland, will share with participants what companies need to do to comply with the new recordkeeping procedures.

Wasser is a lawyer who specializes in occupational safety and health, equal employment opportunity law and wage hour law. He has represented clients in defense of OSHA citations and in establishing programs in response to the citations. Wasser received his undergraduate degree from Tulane University and his law degree from the University of Georgia.

Interested parties can register onsite for a one-day weekend pass for Expo that will allow access to all education sessions plus the tradeshow floor. That pass is $65 for each day.

Worldwide Food Expo '01 will be held October 18-21, 2001, at McCormick Place in Chicago, Ill. The biennial event, which is sponsored by the American Meat Institute (AMI), the International Association of Food Industry Suppliers (IAFIS) and the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA), features the latest products and services for processors and manufacturers in the dairy, meat, poultry, seafood, refrigerated and frozen food, beverage and grocery industries. The trade show is the largest food processing and packaging event held in the Western Hemisphere.

AMI represents the interests of packers and processors of beef, pork, lamb, veal and turkey products and their suppliers throughout North America. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the Institute provides legislative, regulatory and public relations services, conducts scientific and economic research, offers marketing and technical assistance and sponsors education programs.
