HACCP Briefing Scheduled in 20 Cities by American Meat Institute Foundation:

Continuing its seven-year history of HACCP training for the meat and poultry industry, the AMI Foundation (AMIF) announced today that it will host free HACCP briefings in 20 U.S. cities this fall.

The briefings will immediately follow half-day HACCP briefings that USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) plans to conduct in each of the locations. Both the AMIF and the FSIS briefings are designed to help prepare meat and poultry plants with ten to 500 employees for HACCP implementation in January 1999. The FSIS briefings will focus on the regulatory requirements plants must meet. The AMIF briefings will focus on practical tips for operating under USDA’s new Pathogen Reduction/HACCP Rule.

“Success with HACCP requires proper training,” said AMIF Chairman and President J. Patrick Boyle. “The AMI Foundation has trained thousands in our industry to use HACCP principles in their plants. We are eager to provide additional, practical guidance to the thousands of plants that will have to comply with USDA’s HACCP regulation in January 1999. That is why the AMI Foundation has decided to bring its experience to packers and processors in 20 cities across the nation.”

Professionals from AMI’s Regulatory Affairs department will conduct the briefings. Collectively, they offer more than 14 decades of industry and government experience, as well as detailed knowledge of FSIS rules, operations, compliance and enforcement activities. In addition, they have worked with hundreds of meat and poultry companies, large and small, striving to understand and meet FSIS regulatory requirements. AMI regulatory staff also has provided extensive and individualized implementation and compliance assistance to many of the 300 plants that began operating under HACCP in January 1998.

The briefings are scheduled for: September 19, Raleigh, NC; September 26, College Park, MD; October 3, Chicago, IL, and Columbus, OH; October 10, Olympia, WA, and Philadelphia, PA; October 17, Denver, CO, and Kansas City, MO; October 24, Des Moines, IA, and Jackson, MS; October 31, San Juan, PR; November 7, Madison, WI, and Albany, NY; November 14, Atlanta, GA, and Boston, MA; November 21, Fayetteville, AR, and Minneapolis, MN; December 5, Sacramento, CA, and Dallas, TX; and December 8, Honolulu, HI.

The AMIF briefings will all take place from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. There is no charge for the briefings and they are open to AMI members and non-members alike. Specific details, such as meeting locations, will be made available shortly on AMI’s website: www.meatami.org. (HACCP Briefing Schedule)
