AMI Names Caleb Gilchrist Director Of Scientific Affairs

The American Meat Institute (AMI) today named Caleb Gilchrist director of scientific affairs.

At AMI Gilchrist will serve as the Institute’s lead technical expert, supported by AMI Senior Science Advisor Larry Borchert. Gilchrist will manage and coordinate scientific and research activities that benefit the meat and poultry industry. He will assist members in improving food safety and quality and act as the liaison between AMI and various scientific organizations.

Gilchrist recently completed a Congressional Science Fellowship with the House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture, where he helped develop agricultural policy and food safety legislation. He also was an assistant research professor at Langston University, Langston, OK, where he was responsible for product development of meat and dairy products.

Previously, Gilchrist served as quality assurance manager for Odom’s Tennessee Pride Sausage. He received a B.S. in business management from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL; an MBA in business administration from Prairie View A&M University, Prairie View, TX; an M.S. in food science and technology from Texas A&M University, College Station, TX; and a Ph.D. in food science from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK.

“Caleb’s meat science experience and training will be a positive addition to AMI’s regulatory affairs team,” said AMI President and CEO J. Patrick Boyle.

AMI represents the interests of packers and processors of beef, pork, lamb, veal and turkey products and their suppliers throughout North America. Headquartered in Washington, DC, the Institute provides legislative, regulatory and public relations services, conducts scientific and economic research, offers marketing and technical assistance and sponsors education programs.
