American Meat Institute Honors Silliker, Inc. With Supplier of the Year Award

Chicago - The American Meat Institute (AMI) tonight honored Silliker, Inc. and its President and CEO Dr. Russell S. Flowers, Ph.D., with the 2003 Supplier of the Year Award. The award was announced during the 2003 American Meat Institute Chairman's Gala at the Field Museum in Chicago. Silliker shared the award with co-recipient Ecolab.

In presenting the award, AMI Chairman Richard Searer, group vice president, Kraft Foods North America and president, Oscar Mayer, Pizza & Food Service, said Silliker "contributed significantly to what is undoubtedly the industry's greatest challenge: food safety."


With 30 labs in 11 countries meeting and exceeding ISO 17025 requirements, Silliker is one of the leading international networks of accredited testing laboratories serving the food processing, retail and foodservice industries. Silliker also offers a wide array of auditing, consulting services, as well as training in key areas like HACCP and microbiological testing.


Silliker made substantial contributions to the development and delivery of the AMI Foundation's Listeria control workshop. Specifically, Silliker and its team of experts offered significant expertise in microbial testing procedures and methodologies.
Searer added that Silliker has "made a difference for many of AMI member companies and richly deserves recognition."

AMI represents the interests of packers and processors of beef, pork, lamb, veal and turkey products and their suppliers throughout North America. Together, AMI's members produce 95 percent of the beef, pork, lamb and veal products and 70 percent of the turkey products in the United States. Headquartered in Washington, DC, the Institute provides legislative, regulatory, public relations, technical, scientific and educational services to the industry. Its affiliate, the AMI Foundation, is a separate 501(c)3 organization that conducts research, education and information projects for the industry.
