Larry Borchert Retained as AMI's Senior Scientific Advisor

The American Meat Institute (AMI) has retained food and meat scientist Larry L. Borchert, Ph.D., as its senior scientific advisor.

Borchert will assist the Institute in managing projects and issues related to microbiological testing, sodium nitrite and general science that affects the meat and poultry industry. Borchert also will coordinate the activities of the AMI Scientific Affairs Advisory Committee.

Borchert spent 30 years with Oscar Mayer Foods in Madison, WI, retiring from his position as director of central research in 1996. He is currently an adjunct professor of food and meat science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

He has a Ph.D. in food and meat science from the University of Wisconsin and completed post doctoral research at the Danish Meat Research Institute in Roskilde, Denmark, and the Max Planck Institute in Mariensee, Germany.

“The application of sound science is more important to the meat and poultry industry than ever,” according to AMI President J. Patrick Boyle. “We are pleased that a distinguished scientist like Larry Borchert will help augment our capabilities at AMI.”

Headquartered in Washington, DC, the Institute provides legislative, regulatory and public relations services, conducts scientific and economic research, offers marketing and technical assistance and sponsors education programs.
