Manufacturing Solutions Program Spotlights Plant Operations, Product Development & Engineering at Worldwide Food Expo ‘05

Washington, D.C. – “Manufacturing Solutions Continuing Education Courses,” a special track of sessions focusing on what matters most on the production side of the food industry, is a prominent part of the extensive Worldwide Food Expo ’05 educational program.

These in-depth Manufacturing Solutions sessions are designed to help food and beverage plants implement leaner, more efficient and more profitable processing and manufacturing operations. Additionally, credit for Continuing Education Units (CEU), Professional Development Hours (PDH) and Learning Units (LU) is available from the International Association of Food Industry Suppliers (IAFIS) for all Manufacturing Solutions sessions. The program is made available through the generous sponsorship of the IAFIS Foundation.

Worldwide Food Expo, sponsored by the American Meat Institute (AMI), IAFIS and the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA), will be held October 26-29, 2005, at Chicago’s McCormick Place. The event attracts 30,000 industry leaders from 100 countries to see the largest North American display of food and beverage industry suppliers in one location. More than 1,200 exhibitors showcasing innovations in processing, packaging, ingredients and services will cover 1.2 million square feet of floor space.

The following four sessions make up the Manufacturing Solutions program:

Improved Plant Efficiencies through Smart Engineering
In this session, attendees participate in solving actual cases from food processing manufacturers in which considerable time and money were saved as a result of smart engineering. The session is led by HAGEN & Co. CEO Trevor Cusworth, who shares with attendees his 26 years of experience with helping manufacturing firms improve operational performance. This session is sponsored by HAGEN & Co.

Innovation in Product Development
Named by Inc. Magazine and the Wall Street Journal as “One of America’s Top Innovation Experts,” Eureka! Ranch Founder Doug Hall offers practical advice on new product development in this session. Using case studies, Hall focuses on how collaborative supplier-processor relationships can enhance the new product development process; for example, ingredient and flavoring suppliers working closely with food and beverage processors to improve on existing products and create innovative new ones.

Implementing Lean Manufacturing at Plant Level
An enterprise-wide, lean manufacturing approach focuses on the entire product delivery system, from customer demand through distribution, production, design and supply channels. However, much of lean manufacturing operation’s success comes from inside the plant. In this session, a team of leading lean manufacturing experts shares the key principles of lean manufacturing and the best ways to implement them in food and beverage facilities.

Plant Maintenance Short Course
This short course is designed for plant-level attendees and provides the opportunity to learn the latest in maintenance programs for a variety of equipment categories.
