MEDIA RELATIONS VETERAN DAVID RAY JOINS AMERICAN MEAT INSTITUTE

The American Meat Institute (AMI) announced that David Ray joined the Institute this week as vice president of public affairs.

Ray joined AMI after serving 15 years at the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), where he was the media spokesperson. At AMI, Ray will oversee media relations, draft speeches, op-eds and other public communications, develop communications strategies and manage news reporting on http://www.MeatAMI.com. He will report to AMI Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Professional Development Janet Riley.

Prior to joining FAIR, he worked for the Foreign Agriculture Service, Grain and Feed Division. In addition, he served at the Republican National Committee, doing media advance work for then Chairwoman Maureen Reagan. Ray also was an adjunct professor of communication at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville in 1997.

Ray has direct agriculture experience through his family’s cattle operation in Ohio. In addition, he worked on a dairy farm in France, where he became fluent in French.

Ray earned his Master's degree in international communications from American University in 1990 and his Bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics from Ohio State University in 1985.

“David’s extensive experience in media relations, combined with knowledge of agriculture and economics, will serve the Institute, its members and reporters well,” said AMI President J. Patrick Boyle.

AMI represents the interests of packers and processors of beef, pork, lamb, veal and turkey products and their suppliers throughout North America. Together, AMI's members produce 95 percent of the beef, pork, lamb and veal products and 70 percent of the turkey products in the U.S. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the Institute provides legislative, regulatory, public relations, technical, scientific and educational services to the industry. Its affiliate, the AMI Foundation, is a 501(c)(3) organization that conducts research, education and information projects for the industry.
