Industry Powerhouses Come Together for Panel Discussion October 19, 2001, at AMI Conventon in Chicago

A group of meat and poultry industry powerhouses and a major labor leader will come together for a lively and provocative discussion of the future of the agriculture, meat and food industries in the next decade. The discussion will be held during the International Meat, Poultry and Seafood Industry Convention and Exposition, Friday, October 19, 2001, at 9:30 a.m. at Chicago’s McCormick Place.

Panelists will include Michael Engler, president of Cactus Feeders, Inc.; Ted Fowler, president and CEO of Golden Corral Corporation; Neil Genshaft, chairman of the board of Fresh Mark, Inc.; Joseph Hansen, international secretary/treasurer of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union; Joseph Luter, chairman and CEO of Smithfield Foods; Robert (Bo) Manly, president and COO of Premium Standard Farms; John Simons, president and COO of ConAgra Red Meat Companies and John Tyson, chairman, CEO and president of Tyson Foods.

The panel will be moderated by Geoffrey Colvin, editorial director of Fortune Magazine. Colvin will lead a discussion of the major issues facing the meat and poultry industry in the next decade and set an agenda for strengthening the industry worldwide. The discussion will focus on three key areas: consolidation and the competitive environment; food safety and product quality; and workforce issues .
