Monday, April 28, 2003

Washington, DC—AMI President J. Patrick Boyle today announced that veteran lobbyist Mike Brown has been named senior vice president of legislative affairs. Agriculture lobbyist and former Capitol Hill staffer Jesse Sevcik will join the Institute today as vice president of legislative affairs, reporting to Brown.

In his new position, Brown will oversee all of AMI’s legislative efforts and Political Action Committee. Brown joined AMI in May 1995, after serving eight years as a legislative assistant for Sen. John Warner (R-VA). Brown also worked as a legal publication specialist for the Federal Register, where he was responsible for providing information to Congress, federal agencies, trade associations and others on federal regulations and office programs and publications. Brown earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and history from the State University of New York, Brockport, NY.

Sevcik comes to AMI after working with the National Milk Producers Federation where he managed the group’s environmental program and lobbied on issues important to the group’s agricultural cooperative members. Prior to working with NMPF, Sevcik worked for AMI member Farmland Industries, Inc., as a government relations specialist. He also worked Rep. Jay Johnson’s (D-WI) 1996 campaign and in Johnson’s Washington office as a legislative assistant. Sevcik earned his bachelor’s degree in political science at St. Norbert College in Depere, WI, and is currently working on an MBA from the University of Phoenix.

Robert Rosado will continue to serve as director of legislative affairs.

“Mike Brown has demonstrated leadership in our government relations area and we are gratified that he has agreed to assume additional responsibilities.”

“Jesse Sevcik’s broad Capitol Hill experience and knowledge of agricultural issues will be an asset to AMI,” said AMI President and CEO J. Patrick Boyle. “Our members will be well-served by our expanded legislative affairs team.”

AMI represents the interests of packers and processors of beef, pork, lamb, veal and turkey products and their suppliers throughout North America. Together, AMI's members produce 95 percent of the beef, pork, lamb and veal products and 70 percent of the turkey products in the U.S. Headquartered in Washington, DC, the Institute provides legislative, regulatory, public relations, technical, scientific and educational services to the industry. Its affiliate, the AMI Foundation, is a separate 501(c)3 organization that conducts research, education and information projects for the industry.
