New AMI Affinity Program Can Help Companies Negotiate Lower Electricity Rate

Friday, July 27, 2001

Washington, DC - American Meat Institute (AMI) members can now pool together with other companies to find the best combination of low price and high reliability in electric power rates.

Affiliated Power Purchasers International, LLC, (APPI) based in Salisbury, MD, uses the leverage of a buyer’s pool to negotiate, contract and manage energy purchases for members of the program. The pool represents corporate and industrial customers from different industries nationwide.

The deregulation of the energy industry presents an opportunity to save money on the cost of utilities by allowing consumers to shop for the best energy prices. APPI uses its expertise and pool's leverage to constantly shop for the highest reliability and lowest rate available. APPI receives a small percentage of the savings their services produce for members of the pool.

Members will remain connected to their local utility - only the source of power generation and the cost will change. The local utility continues to transmit and distribute power over its wires and maintain the lines. Whether a company has a single site or locations in several states, they will gain leverage by participating in the high volume, multi-industry pool.

APPI draws on three decades of experience managing the needs of businesses. The company specializes in the development, marketing, and administration of utility-related benefit programs for members of national and state trade and professional associations.

Members interested in applying may contact APPI at 800-520-6685 or write to 2129 Northwood Drive, First Floor, Salisbury, MD 21801. Members also can contact Kathy Kiernan, national sales director for APPI, by email at kkiernan@appienergy.com. Kiernan is responsible for administering the program to AMI members.

AMI represents the interests of packers and processors of beef, pork, lamb, veal and turkey products and their suppliers throughout North America. Headquartered in Washington, DC, the Institute provides legislative, regulatory and public relations services, conducts scientific and economic research, offers marketing and technical assistance and sponsors education programs.
