AMI Foundation Safety Awards Are Highlight of Annual Conference on Worker Safety, Health and Human Resources

Washington, DC—The AMI Foundation’s (AMIF) 2003 Conference on Worker Safety, Health & Human Resources will honor achievements in workplace safety during the 2003 Worker Safety Awards on March 25, 2003, in Denver, CO.

The annual awards have been the key part of the conference for 15 years and highlight continuing industry efforts to improve safety records at the plant level. AMIF and National Safety Council (NSC) annually sponsor the awards to motivate companies to strive for greater improvements in their safety performance.

“The continuing strong annual participation in the worker safety awards illustrates the meat and poultry industry’s commitment to enhancing workplace safety and sustaining the downward trend in illness and injury rates,” said AMI President J. Patrick Boyle.

The awards are based on an evaluation of each eligible plant’s actual safety performance, which is measured against Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data, and its implementation of key components of an effective safety and health program, which is tabulated through a NSC-designed plant questionnaire.

In 2002, more than 200 attendees participated in the Conference on Worker Safety, Health and Human Resources and more than 175 plants enrolled in the safety awards program.

The 15th Annual Conference on Worker Safety, Health and Human Resources also offers a comprehensive certificate course on training, 16 unique one-hour workshops and the 2003 Safety Awards Banquet where the “best of the best” will be feted at a special ceremony. The three-day event is $585 for AMI members, $525 per person for groups of three or more from the same Member Company, and $825 for non-members.
