Statement of the American Meat Institute on the Nomination of Dr. Elsa Murano as USDA Under Secretary for Food Safety

Attribute Statement to AMI President J. Patrick Boyle


USDA's Under Secretary of Food Safety plays a critical role in assuring consumers a safe meat and poultry supply and assuring industry scientifically sound food safety policies and enforcement.

AMI congratulates Agriculture Secretary Veneman for nominating Dr. Elsa Murano, an accomplished food scientist, to this important position. Dr. Murano has extensive expertise in food microbiology, a field that now dominates food safety policy discussions and is very important to industry, consumers and government.

AMI looks forward to a cooperative relationship with Dr. Murano and her colleagues at USDA to achieve our mutual goal of ensuring that the U.S. meat and poultry supply continues to set the global standard for food safety.
