Multivac, Inc. Sales Director Norm Winkel Honored With American Meat Institute Supplier Of The Year Award

Thursday, September 17, 1998

Norm Winkel, director of sales and marketing for Multivac, Inc., in Kansas City, MO, was named the American Meat Institute’s 1998 Supplier of the Year. The award was presented at the Institute’s Annual Convention and Innovation Showcase in Philadelphia, PA.

The award recognizes a meat and poultry industry supplier who has made outstanding contributions to the health and success of the industry. In presenting the award, AMI Immediate Past Chairman Joel Johnson, chairman, president and CEO of Hormel Foods Corporation in Austin, MN, said that successful partnerships -- or strategic alliances -- between suppliers and packers and processors are becoming increasingly critical to the industry’s success and that Multivac has embraced such alliances.

He noted that Multivac has been a supplier to the American meat industry and a leader in the packaging industry for over 30 years and that Winkel is an active member of AMI’s Supplier Committee. “He can always be found on the AMI Exposition floor, where Multivac historically has been one of the largest exhibitors,” Johnson said.

Multivac supplies the meat and poultry industry with an entire line of stainless steel packaging equipment, from tray sealing machines to vacuum skin packing machines to automatic rollstock machines. The company’s research and development has provided leading edge packaging solutions that have changed the way that products are introduced to the market. These solutions include zipper reclosable packaging and high-speed bacon and pizza packaging.

“Packaging is Multivac’s only business, and they certainly have perfected their trade,” according to Johnson. “The company’s innovative technologies have contributed enormously to the safety and sanitation of meat and poultry processing.”

AMI represents the interests of packers and processors of beef, pork, lamb, veal and turkey products and their suppliers throughout North America. Headquartered in Washington, DC, the Institute provides legislative, regulatory and public relations services, conducts scientific and economic research, offers marketing and technical assistance and sponsors education programs.
