Four AMI Members Elected to Serve Three-Year Terms on American Meat Institute's Board of Directors

Las Vegas, NV, October 12, 2000—Four American Meat Institute (AMI) members have been elected to the Institute’s Board of Directors to serve three-year terms from 2001 to 2003.

The new Board members were elected during AMI's Annual Business Meeting, which was held during AMI’s Annual Convention, October 12-14, in Las Vegas, NV.

New members of AMI’s Board of Directors include:


  • Alan Simon, Chairman & CEO, Omaha Steaks International, Inc., in Omaha, NE
  • Edward Bleka, President & CEO, Quantum Foods, Inc., in Bolingbrook, IL
  • Alan Sussna, President and CEO, Atlantic Premium Brands, Ltd., in Northbrook, IL
  • Steve Tennis, President, Handtmann, Inc., in Buffalo Grove, IL

    The new members will be joined by John Rueb, managing partner of the Southwest Hide Company in Boise, ID, who will serve a one-year term representing the United States Hide, Skin and Leather Association.

    “These individuals bring to the Board of Directors years of industry experience and a diverse perspective on the meat and poultry industry that will help AMI meet the challenges of the coming years,” said AMI President J. Patrick Boyle.

    AMI represents the interests of packers and processors of beef, pork, lamb, veal and turkey products and their suppliers throughout North America. Headquartered in Washington, DC, the Institute provides legislative, regulatory and public relations services, conducts scientific and economic research, offers marketing and technical assistance and sponsors education programs.
