AMI Foundation Will Host 1998 Conference on Worker Safety, Health and Human Resources, March 16-18, in Denver, CO

The American Meat Institute Foundation will host the 1998 Conference on Worker Safety, Health and Human Resources March 16-18 at the Denver Marriott City Center, in Denver, Colorado.

The meat and poultry industry is a labor intensive industry comprised of nearly 500,000 employees. The issues involved in managing a workforce of this size and ensuring its safety and health are numerous and complex. This year’s conference incorporates many of the ideas and constructive recommendations from past attendees to provide clear and insightful discussions of these issues through a number of topical workshops.

The worker safety portion of the conference will focus specifically on the three critical components of an effective safety program: prevention, compliance and cost containment. Leading industry experts will discuss the importance of writing a disaster plan and what that plan should entail; understanding and complying with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) regulations and what to expect from OSHA in 1998; effectively managing worker compensation programs; and building employees’ commitment to safety.

Human resources management will once again be an integral part of the conference program. Speakers will address new developments in immigration, innovative employment practices, current and future trends in unions, compliance and legal issues, and ergonomically sound process engineering techniques.

In addition, the AMIF will present the 1997 Safety Recognition Awards for Achievement in Workplace Safety during a special awards luncheon. Designed and administered by the National Safety Council, these awards recognize facilities for implementing successful worker safety programs.

The 1998 Conference on Worker Safety, Health and Human Resources is an excellent opportunity to learn new ways to improve workforce safety and health and to interact with leading industry experts.
