Hatfield, Inc.'s Phil Clemens Elected AMI Secretary for 1998-1999 Term

Phil Clemens, president and CEO of Hatfield, Inc., in Hatfield, PA, has been elected to a one-year term as secretary of the American Meat Institute (AMI). He will serve from September 1998 to October 1999.

Clemens’ election came during AMI's Annual Business Meeting, which preceded the 1998 Annual Convention and Innovation Showcase, September 17-19, 1998, in Philadelphia, PA.

Clemens began working in his family business at Hatfield on a part-time basis in 1962, then worked his way up the corporate ladder to be named president in 1994 and CEO in 1995. At Hatfield, he has held such positions as sanitation crew supervisor, data processing manager, personnel director and vice president of human resources.

In addition to his responsibilities at Hatfield, Clemens is president of the board of directors of the United Way of North Penn, serves on the Packer Processor Industry Council, is a member of Senator Rick Santorum’s Agriculture Committee and volunteers with the Philadelphia Food Bank.

Clemens is a graduate of Pierce College, Philadelphia, PA.

AMI represents the interests of packers and processors of beef, pork, lamb, veal and turkey products and their suppliers throughout North America. Headquartered in Washington, DC, the Institute provides legislative, regulatory and public relations services, conducts scientific and economic research, offers marketing and technical assistance and sponsors education programs.
