North American Meat Institute Applauds New Access for U.S. Beef, Poultry Exports to Tunisia

Attribute statement to Meat Institute President and CEO Julie Anna Potts:

Washington, DC – The North American Meat Institute (Meat Institute) applauds the Trump Administration’s successful efforts to open the Tunisian market to U.S. beef and poultry exports. The agreement reached between the U.S. and Tunisia affirms the safety and wholesomeness of U.S. beef and poultry products, provides important growth potential for those product exports and adheres to international trade standards.

We are encouraged by initial estimates suggesting Tunisia would import annually $5-10 million of beef, poultry and egg products from the U.S., with additional growth expected over time. International trade is essential to the long-term viability of the U.S. meat and poultry industry, and this new access will help level the playing field for American farmers, ranchers and meat and poultry packers, processors and producers at a time when many countries are actively pursuing negotiations to cultivate robust global export markets.

The Meat Institute once again commends the Administration for prioritizing the opening of new markets for U.S. meat and poultry products. We also look forward to continuing to work with the Administration to further reduce trade barriers and improve access for U.S. meat and poultry exports in all foreign markets.
