NAMI Announces Additional Free Education Programming for 2016 IPPE

Washington, DC – The North American Meat Institute (NAMI) announced it will sponsor three additional free education programs at the 2016 International Production and Processing Expo (IPPE), scheduled to take place January 26-28, 2016, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

The “Beef 101” session, scheduled from 8 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 27, will provide an overview of the beef lifecycle, address common questions regarding beef production, discuss factors affecting beef quality and offer a unique demonstration of innovative beef cuts. The workshop will feature Davey Griffin, Ph.D., professor and extension meat specialist, Texas A&M University.

The “Regulatory Update and Compliance Session,” scheduled from 8 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 27, will cover pertinent regulatory issues and challenges facing the meat and poultry industry and will provide an overview of the many in-plant inspection and enforcement tools used by the Food Safety and Inspection Service, including Noncompliance Reports, Notice of Intended Enforcements, Food Safety Assessments and Hazard Analysis Verification tasks. NAMI’s Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and General Counsel Mark Dopp and Vice President of Regulatory Services Norm Robertson will lead the session.

The “Addressing the Challenges of Family Business” workshop, will discuss some of the most pressing concerns facing family businesses in the meat industry, focusing on succession planning and family member employment, along with other related topics. The session also will provide opportunity for interaction and discussion to facilitate the sharing of best practices and ideas. Phil Clemens, former chairman and family ambassador of The Clemens Family Corporation, and Jennifer Pendergast, senior consultant, The Family Business Consulting Group, will speak during the session, which will take place Wednesday, January 27, from 8 to 10 a.m.
