Meat Institute Applauds Congressional Passage of TPAWednesday, June 24, 2015
Washington, DC –North American Meat Institute President and CEO Barry Carpenter today expressed his appreciation to the Senate for their quick action to approve the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) bill following House passage last week.
“Today’s Senate approval of TPA is a major step forward that sends a message to the world that the U.S. is serious about trade,” said Carpenter. “With President Obama’s signature, TPA will allow the U.S. to move forward on critical trade agreements that hold enormous potential for companies that export, and for our economy as a whole.”
TPA clarifies trade agreement objectives and priorities and sets consultation and notification requirements that the president follows during negotiations. TPA is key to finalizing critical free trade agreements like the Trans-Pacific Partnership, which are essential to the stability and long term viability of our industry by expanding U.S. beef, pork, lamb and poultry exports.share on facebook share on twitter
