2008 Conference on Worker Safety, Health and Human Resources To Feature Interlox Factory Tour

The American Meat Institute Foundation (AMIF) will host the 2008 Conference on Worker Safety, Health and Human Resources, April 13-15, 2008, at the Marriott Convention Center in the reinvigorated French Quarter of New Orleans.

In addition to an array of worker safety and human resources educational programs, this year’s conference will also offer a tour of Intralox, the inventor and world’s largest manufacturer of modular plastic conveyor belts used in food processing, to a limited number of participants.

Mike Thomson, Ph.D., better known as “Dr. Mike,” will be the keynote speaker at the first General Session.  His session, “Strategies for Saving Your Sanity,” will provide techniques to answer the questions to everyday, real-life problems. 

For the past 25 years, Dr. Mike has been described as “The Master of Entertainment Comedy, Fun and Learning” in venues as different as small seminars and international conferences or in his many radio and television appearances. His talks have now been heard by 2 million people worldwide.

The conference will also offer an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-Hour General Industry Standards Seminar specially tailored to the meat industry, led by Jon Wallace, safety consultant, Workplace Group. 

Educational sessions will include topics such as basic plant safety and human resources in the meatpacking industry.  Scheduled instructors for these sessions include: Bruce Foster, Kraft Foods, Inc.; Richard Fagerlin, Peak Solutions.; Mark Heidebrecht, CEA, ErgoMethods; Jim Berazzani, FBI; Nancy Stout, Ed.D., NIOSH, Department of Labor; Neil Wasser, Constangy, Brooks & Smith, LLC; Jon Wallace, Workplace Group; and Mike Thomson, Ph.D.

The annual Workers Safety Awards will be presented in the final session on Friday. 

Registration fees for those registering before March 10, 2008, are $625 for AMI members, $865 for non-members and $565 each when three or more members register together.  After March 10, 2008, registration rates increase to $675 for AMI members, $865 for non-members, $615 each when three or more members register together.

To make reservations call the New Orleans Marriott directly at 504-613-2888 by March 24, 2008. After this date, rooms will be on a space and rate available basis. Please mention AMI to receive the special group rate of $185 single or double occupancy. Hotel reservations must be cancelled 24 hours prior to day of arrival to receive a full refund.
