Final BSE Rule Implemented Last Week.Monday, March 10, 2014
(American Meat Institute)USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection
Service (APHIS) implemented the final
comprehensive BSE rule last week and now all
beef and beef products imported into the U.S.
will need to have certification based on the
BSE risk category recognized for the region of
the country in order to export the meat.
APHIS said that for regions that are already exporting beef to the U.S., like Canada, Mexico, Australia, South America and others, the agency will permit a 30 day transitional period for those regions to create new certificates with the appropriate language. The agency also said it is working with Customs and Border Protection to communicate that the certificates currently being used for beef from those regions are still allowed for the next 30 days.
