Senate Committee Move Forward on NomineesTuesday, March 4, 2014
(American Meat Institute)The Senate Health, Education, Labor and
Pensions Committee approved, in an en bloc
voice vote, approved nominees for
administration posts at the Department of Labor
and the Occupational Safety and Health Review
Commission. At the Department of Labor,
Christopher P. Lu has been nominated for the
position of deputy secretary of Labor. Lu is a
senior fellow at the Center for the Study of
the Presidency and Congress and until last year
he served in the administration as assistant to
the president and cabinet secretary. Portia Y.
Wu has been nominated for the position of
assistant secretary for Employment and
Training. Wu currently works in the White
House as the special assistant to the president
for labor and workforce policy.
Additionally, the committee endorsed the nomination of Heather Lynn MacDougall to join the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission. MacDougall is an attorney who currently works in the labor and employment division of Akerman LLP.
