FDA Extends Comment Periods for FSMA Proposed RulesMonday, August 12, 2013
(American Meat Institute)
The FDA published Federal Register notices extending the comment periods on the proposed rules for Preventive Controls for Human Food and Produce Safety for 60 days until November 15, 2013. It is the second extension of the comment period for these two rules mandated by the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).
FDA says it extended the deadlines to allow people the opportunity to consider the interrelationships between the two proposals, which were originally published on January 16, 2013, and the two new other FSMA proposed rules that published on July 29, 2013, Foreign Supplier Verification Programs for Importers of Food for Humans and Animals and the Accreditation of Third-Party Auditors/Certification Bodies to Conduct Food Safety Audits and to Issue Certifications.
