AMI Encourages Action on ImmigrationMonday, April 15, 2013

AMI joined a large coalition of employer associations and businesses last week to praise efforts by the House of Representatives to formulate a solution to the nation’s immigration problem. The letter urged House leaders in the immigration debate to remain consistent with AMI’s principles in addressing the changing labor needs of the U.S. economy. The letter stressed the need for a robust and successful temporary worker program and a fair and workable employment verification system with safe harbors for businesses acting in good faith.
Negotiations continue in the Senate and House around the issue. The Senate “Gang of 8” is expected to release a bill this week, and the Senate’s Committee on the Judiciary scheduled a hearing Wednesday. The bill is likely to be marked up no earlier than May.share on facebook share on twitter
