FSIS Plans Increased Species Testing on Imported Products

USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) provided new instructions to import inspection personnel for increased species sampling and testing, in addition to the annual Public Health Information System (PHIS) species sampling. The increased species sampling will focus on product from Iceland, Ireland, Poland, the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland via PHIS. In addition, samples of raw ground beef or veal components and raw ground beef or veal from any country that are tested for Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) will also be subject to species testing.
