Japan last week asked to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations, a move that bodes well for increasing trade between the U.S. and Japan. TPP is a regional trade negotiation that includeseleven nations. Japan's entry is subject to approval by other TPP members. AMI welcomed the development. "This is a very positive step forward in expanding agricultural trade with Japan," said AMI President J. Patrick Boyle. "We support their entry into the TPP as long as they are willing to negotiate in a comprehensive manner."
Japan is the fourth largest U.S. agricultural export market overall. U.S. food and agricultural exports to Japan in 2012 totaled $13.5 billion.share on facebook share on twitter
