AMI Recommends Clarifying Terms in FSIS Compliance Guide for Residue Prevention and Agency Testing Policy for ResiduesFriday, June 29, 2012
(American Meat Institute)
AMI has submitted comments on USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) Docket No. FSIS-2011-0008; Compliance Guide for Residue Prevention and Agency Testing Policy for Residues. The comments recommend that USDA use the terms “Residue Free,” “Residue Violators” and “Prevention of Residues” in the appropriate context.
In comments, AMI said that changing the terms to reflect violative residues rather than residue free or prevention of residues would make the Guide more accurate.
The comments also offer recommendations that were requested by FSIS for removing suppliers from the Residue Repeat Violator List as well as suggesting the Compliance Guide include model certificates. Referencing market/dealer certification and direct purchase residue certificates created and used by industry would be a valuable addition to the compliance guide, according to AMI.
