EPA Lifts Administrative Stay on Reporting Requirements for Hydrogen SulfideThursday, December 8, 2011
(American Meat Institute)
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has lifted its administrative stay of the Emergency Planning and Right To Know Act (EPCRA) section 313 toxic chemical release reporting requirements for hydrogen sulfide — CAS No. 7783-06-4. With the stay lifted, hydrogen sulfide must be reported by July 1, 2013, for the 2012 reporting year.
Hydrogen sulfide was first added to the EPCRA list after a rulemaking process in 1993. An administrative stay was issued in August 1994 to give EPA time to take comments and review the human health and environmental effects of hydrogen sulfide.
In February 2010, EPA announced its intent to lift the stay. Several industry associations including AMI commented on the issue.
